Unearthed!: The USS Indianapolis

The U.S.S. Indianapolis off the Mare Island Navy Yard, July 10, 1945, after a final overhaul and repair of combat damage inflicted by a kamikaze attack. Photograph from the Bureau of Ships Collection in the U.S. National Archives.

Today, the U.S.S. Indianapolis is most known for its crew’s horrifying wait for rescue after being torpedoed following a secret mission at the end of World War II. But the ship’s history goes back much farther than that.

This is the 2015 documentary "USS Indianapolis, the Legacy" which we mentioned on the show: http://www.pbs.org/uss-indianapolis/home/

Here is the monologue from the movie "Jaws" that tells the story of the USS Indianapolis: https://youtu.be/u9S41Kplsbs
